Music & Creative Health

Where music, creativity and wellbeing meet.

Music & Creative Health

Where music, creativity and wellbeing meet.

Using songwriting, storytelling and creative expression to create connection, confidence, reflection and meaningful human experience.

Music has been part of Elaine Lennon’s life and work for decades.

But alongside performing and releasing music, Elaine has also discovered something else:

music can create spaces where people see, hear and understand themselves differently.

Through songwriting, storytelling, collaborative creativity and live musical experiences, Elaine brings the power of music into wellbeing, education, community and organisational settings.

This is not music therapy.

It is not about needing to be musical.

And it is not about creating a perfect performance.

It is about what can happen when creativity gives people another way to express, explore, connect and be heard.

Creativity as a way of connecting.

Sometimes we understand something differently when we experience it rather than simply talk about it.

A song can say something that conversation cannot.

A story can open a door.

Writing something together can build connection between people who might otherwise never have spoken.

And creating something can remind us that our voice, ideas and perspective matter.

This is the space where Elaine’s music practice and The Life Compass™ meet.

NEXT EVENT:

Music In...

When the music becomes part of the place itself.

Elaine also creates bespoke live and immersive experiences in unexpected spaces.

The Musician Will See You Now is one example — an immersive live music experience created for North Lanarkshire Council’s Music In… programme, transforming the Houldsworth Centre waiting-room atrium into a space for music, reflection and connection.

Blending original music, storytelling, conversation and audience reflection, the experience explores the metaphorical waiting rooms we encounter throughout our lives.

The work demonstrates what can happen when music is not simply placed on a stage — but becomes part of the environment, the story and the experience itself.

What Music & Creative Health can include

Depending on the setting, projects may involve:

  • Songwriting & creative expression

  • Music and storytelling

  • Creative reflection & wellbeing

  • Live and immersive music experiences

  • Collaborative songwriting projects

  • Community creative-health programmes

  • Youth and education projects

  • Creative workshops and residencies

  • Cross-disciplinary collaborations

  • Bespoke commissioned projects

Every project is different.

The creative approach is shaped around the people involved, the environment and what the experience is intended to achieve.

Music for wellbeing, connection & confidence

Creative projects can create opportunities for people to:

  • express themselves in new ways

  • develop confidence in their own voice

  • explore identity, emotions and life experiences

  • strengthen communication and collaboration

  • experience achievement through creativity

  • build connection and belonging

  • reflect on change and transition

  • discover new possibilities

For some people, that might mean writing their first song.

For others, it might mean hearing their story reflected back through music.

For a community, it might mean creating something together.

And sometimes it simply means sitting in a room, listening to a song and feeling a little less alone.

Youth & Education

Elaine has extensive experience using songwriting and creative music projects with children and young people.

Projects have included songwriting, recording, live performance, creative collaboration, STEM-linked music projects and youth band development.

The emphasis is on participation rather than perfection — helping young people develop confidence, communication, creativity, collaboration and their own voice.

Selected projects have resulted in professionally released music, live performances and recognition including 5-star awards in the UK Songwriting Contest.

The Homebird Sessions™

Music, conversation and human connection.

The Homebird Sessions™ began as Elaine’s live music platform and have evolved into a distinctive way of bringing music, storytelling and honest conversation together.

The sessions create space to listen, reflect, connect and explore the stories behind the songs — often opening up wider conversations about life, creativity, resilience and change.

Creative Health & Community Projects

Elaine works with schools, community organisations, cultural organisations, councils and other partners to develop creative experiences around particular themes, communities or places.

These might explore:

  • wellbeing and resilience

  • identity and belonging

  • creativity and confidence

  • life transitions

  • community connection

  • emotional expression

  • storytelling and shared experience

  • social and cultural themes

Projects can range from a single creative experience to a longer-term collaborative programme.

The starting point is always the same:

What are we trying to create, and what might creativity make possible?

A different kind of creative practice

Elaine brings together several worlds that do not always meet in the same room:

Award-winning singer-songwriter.
Professional recording and touring artist.
Educator and facilitator.
TEDx speaker.
Wellbeing practitioner.

Her work is informed by decades of creative practice alongside her wider Life Compass™ philosophy.

The result is an approach that is both creatively ambitious and deeply human.

There is room for professionalism and play.

For structure and spontaneity.

For performance and quiet reflection.

And above all, for people to participate in ways that feel meaningful to them.

From a song to something bigger.

A creative project does not have to begin with a finished idea.

You might have a group of young people with something they want to say.

A community with a story to tell.

An organisation exploring wellbeing and connection.

A venue looking for something different.

A festival seeking an immersive experience.

Or simply an idea that does not yet have a name.

Elaine can work with you to explore what that could become.
